Created Ministry of Local Administration 696 new administrative unit is distributed in 26 cities and 242 municipalities and 428 town, according to the law of the local administration where he became a full total of the administrative units at the level of Syria after 1335 was 639 before the new law.

Said Khalid Al Kamel Director of the local councils at the ministry told SANA that the importance of such events is to include sound all communities within the administrative units, including the villages and farms that were formerly under the Municipalities Act of 1956 can now residents of these communities vote of both houses of the province and the administrative unit after the they were previously unable to election to the provincial council only.

The engineer pointed out that the entire creation of these units are working to strengthen the decentralization of the powers exercised at the level of administrative units, indicating that the concentration of potential revenue and the administrative unit of the material contributes to the implementation of service projects on a larger scale.

Mr. President Bashar al-Assad issued on 23 August last Legislative Decree No. 107 containing the law of local administration.
