DAMASCUS, (SANA) – Patriarchal Assistant at the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, Bishop Luca al-Khouri, said that Syria is facing a massive conspiracy concocted by the United States and its allies, and that this conspiracy is a test for Syria.

In an interview with the Syrian TV on Sunday, Bishop al-Khouri said that the coexistence in Syria is unique, and that Syrians of all religions are deep-rooted and live together as brothers, stressing that Syria's unique position and social fabric is the reason it's being targeted.

He pointed out that attempts were made to divide the Syrian people since the days of the French mandate under the pretext of protecting Christians, and today there are those who wish to take Syria to the unknown, adding that no-one can undermine the Syrians' national unity.

"Freedom means accepting the others and engaging them in dialogue, which is why we ask those who reject dialogue: what do you want?" al-Khouri said, calling on those people to leave Syrians alone.

He pointed out that the United States and the west brag about human rights while treating humans badly, noting that ambassadors of some western countries – the US in particular – often cause trouble in the countries they're in, much like the US ambassador in Syria, adding "but he got what he deserved wherever he went."

Al-Khouri said that several delegations visited Syria, including clergymen from the United States and Russian, Ukrainian and Indian delegations, and that all these delegations witnessed how Syrians coexist despite the crisis and the circumstance.

He concluded by saluting the martyrs and wishing mercy upon them, offering words of encouragement to the mothers of martyrs Saria Hassoun and Sari Saoud.

In turn, Ala'eddin al-Zaatari from Dar al-Fatwa of the Endowments (Awqaf) Ministry said that the youth and children of Syria are the ones being targeted, and that what is happening in Syria shows that there is a conspiracy targeting the region through tis people to change its civilized, cultural and religious profile.

For his part, Imam of al-Hasan Mosque in Aleppo, Shaikh Hasan Seifeddin said that the conspiracy against Syria is a grave one and that it targets the youth, scientists and good men in the country, with gangs working to tear apart Syria's social fabric.

Seifeddin stressed the need to be patient and adhere to national unity, noting that reform is underway and that it needs bases, not dictations from abroad.
