Syrian opposition plan to storm their own embassy

CAIRO, Egypt, Nov. 27 (AKnews) - The Kurdish and Arab Syrians are planning to storm their country's diplomatic mission to Egypt. The Embassy assault is a desperate mission to free the Egyptian it is alleged has been kidnapped said the head of the media committee supporting the Syrian Revolution.

Syrian Momen Kwaifati told AKnews that Syrian dissidents will storm the embassy when the deadline to release the allegedly captive Egyptian expires. She is said to be Mona Abdel Wahab Mohammed Gahreeb, wife of Syrian dissident Thaer al-Nashef an employee of Cairo-based, Syrian opposition TV station Safa TV.

The senior members of the Syrian opposition have tried to discourage young demonstrators from storming the Syrian embassy so as to avoid any clashes between the Syrian community and Egyptian security forces.

The demonstrators, who have occupied the ground in front of the Syrian embassy, chanted slogans against the regime and family of President Bashar al-Assad and his father, Hafez al-Assad.

The slogans also criticized Hezbollah and the Mahdi Army of the Shiite Sadrist movement in Iraq for supporting the Syrian regime with arms and money.

The Syrian Embassy in Cairo has denied Arab media reports of the apparent kidnapping. The embassy said in a statement seen by AKnews that those who are publishing such accusations are opposition groups living in Egypt who call for foreign military intervention in Syria.

The statement continued: "Such parties seek to exploit the current situation in the Arab Republic of Egypt in order to incite the Egyptian public opinion against Syria and against the Syrian Embassy in Cairo, in an attempt to abuse the fraternal relationship and history that binds the two countries."

The Syrian Embassy in Cairo called for all Arab media to report accurately and fairly, staying away from the crude incitement that these groups seek.

The statement concluded: "The Syrian Arab Republic or its embassy can not exercise any activity contrary to the law and the norms of diplomacy on the land of Arab Republic of Egypt, or on any other land."
