DAMASCUS, (SANA) – The Syrian Cabinet discussed Tuesday the economic sanctions imposed by the Arab League on Syria and their effects on the Syrian people.
At a press conference held after the Cabinet's session chaired by Prime Minister, Adel Safar, Minister of Information Adnan Mahmoud said the session focused on the economic sanctions imposed by the Arab League on Syria and their effects on the Syrian people.
Minister Mahmoud added that the Syrian Government considered a number of measures to deal with the repercussions of the sanctions on the national economy.
The Minister pointed out that the Government stressed commitment to provide all needs and requirements of citizens, adding that Syria is self-sufficient and enjoys a strategic stockpile of basic needs and food.
The Cabinet also discussed a bill on illicit gain and a bill on combating corruption aimed at encouraging social participation in protecting public money from corruption.
Draft Law on Providing Farmers with Production Requirements Approved

DAMASCUS, (SANA) - The People's Assembly on Tuesday approved a draft law on financing farmers to meet their requirements of agricultural production (seeds, fertilizers, cash payments) through loans from the Agricultural Cooperative Bank for winter season of 2011/2012.
The law provides for financing farmers regardless of their due debts which exceeded their financial assets, taking into account the farmers' accumulated debts, especially in Hasaka governorate, because of the poor agricultural seasons over the past years.
The Assembly referred a draft law on escrow accounts for real estate development and investment projects offered for public subscription to the Services Committee for study after the approval of the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee.
The draft laws on adding paragraph C to the article 2 of rent law and on wills and inheritance for Armenian Orthodox Community in Syria were referred to the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee for study.

During the meeting, exchanging ideas and opinions that will enhance the role of the national media in the face of foreign conspiracy on Syria and the truth and expose the methods of deception and media campaigns by the media biased and hostile against Syria.

USD Rises against SYP by 1.01 %, Initial Approval to Enlist the 6th Insurance Company in DSE

DAMASCUS, (SANA) - The SYP/USD opened the week's trade at 50.10 and closed at 50.61, recording a 1.01 % increase, while the Euro started off the weekly trading against the SYP at 67.75 and closed at 67.68 with a drop of 0.103%.
According to the Central Bank of Syria report, the US dollar continued gain ground against other major currencies due to the rise of demand for safe investments amid the intensification of the European and U.S. sovereign debt crises.
Since September, The CBS has recently started to move the SYP/USD exchange rate in accordance with the global exchange rate movements in a way that reflects the changes in the local supply and demand of foreign currency.
The CBS decision came after the recent US sanctions which led Syria to replace the Dollar with other currencies. This move ensures better stability of the SYP exchange rate against other foreign currencies after the CBS had fixed the SYP exchange rate against Dollar since the crisis started.
The CBS included the Chinese Yuan in its daily exchange rates bulletin since last September to facilitate trading in light of heading eastward, particularly towards China.
The Bank has interfered several times in the exchange market selling millions in foreign currency as a step to preserve the exchange rate, with the latest amount sold reaching USD 41,9 million.
DSE: Initial Approval to Enlist Arab Orient Insurance Company in Parallel Market
The Executive Director of Damascus Securities Exchange (DSE), Ma'moun Hamdan, on Wednesday issued a decision on initial approval for enlisting the shares of the Arab Orient Insurance Company in the parallel market /B/.
The Company is to complete the enlisting requirements to get the approval within a month time, which includes mainly the registration and depositing of shares and paying the due allowances towards signing the enlisting agreement with the DSE.
With the enlisting of the Arab Orient Insurance Company, the number of companies listed in the DSE rose up to 20, including 12 banks, 6 insurance companies and 4 industrial, agricultural and service companies.
The value of trading achieved over the first ten months of 2011 at the DSE reached SYP 6.9 billion.

Council discussed the draft law provides for the creation of an independent body called the Anti-Corruption Commission and aimed at the prevention of corruption and the fight against crimes and to encourage community participation in the field of combat and protect public money and reinforcing the principle of fairness and transparency in the performance of public bodies and the achievement of equal opportunities among citizens.
This comes during the discussion of the Council of Ministers in its meeting held yesterday under the chairmanship of Dr. Adel Safar, President of the Council imposed economic sanctions on Syria, the Arab League, which affect the various segments of the Syrian people and groups.
The crimes of corruption in the application of this law, crimes of bribery and influence exchange and embezzlement of public funds and abuse of public office and graft.
The Cabinet discussed a draft law on graft and the gain is illegal under the provisions of this law:
All money received by an employee or an existing public service for himself or for others by exploiting the work or influence or the circumstances of his job or his public service.
Every increase in the capital of the employee or the existing public service or money spouse or minor children are not commensurate with their resources and is unable to prove the source of her project.
All money received by any natural or legal person in collusion with an employee or an existing public service by taking advantage of his office or public service.
The Cabinet decided to follow-up study of the two draft laws and rewritten and presented to the Board within ten days to complete the proposals and discussed according to the observations made around them.
