DAMASCUS, (SANA) – The Turkish political analyst Barakat Tar regretted that the Arab League (AL) which has never made a decision condemning the Zionist occupation of Palestine agreed today to punish a founding member through a set of sanctions, which Turkey based on and exploited to exert more pressures on Syria.

Abdel Kareem added that Syria is punished because it is the supporter of all liberation movements in Iraq and Lebanon against the Israeli and U.S. ambitions in the region.
He expressed confidence in that the public pressure will force the Arab countries to review their policies, adding that Syria will come out stronger from the current situation thanks to the Syrian people's unity.
The Ambassador underlined cooperation between the Syrian and Lebanese armies to stop smuggling operations from Lebanon to Syria, calling upon the Lebanese government to have effective role in preventing all forms of smuggling arms and armed men to Syria.
Jordanian analyst: Economic sanction against Syria will affect the neighboring countries
The economic analyst and member of the Jordanian national initiative in solidarity with Syria George Haddadin said that the economic sanctions against Syria will affect the neighboring countries.
He added that these sanctions serve particular ambitions in rebuilding the "new Middle East" in line with the American interests and the Capitalist powers in the world.
He added that social classes in Jordan were the first to denounce the AL decisions against Syria as the two people have joint interests and the Jordanian farmers published a statement in rejection of the AL decisions which damage their interests.

Hizbollah Secretary General, a prominent symbol of Arab Resistance against the Israeli occupation, renewed his Party's rejection to financing the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) because it is unconstitutional and illegitimate, declaring, however, that Hizbollah considers Lebanon's national interest as the priority.
When it comes to STL, Nasrallah called on Najib Miqati, Lebanese Premier, who transferred money to STL, to consider the issue of false witnesses, and the four prominent Lebanese Officers, who were put behind bars, under false and fabricated allegations.

The CIA found itself in some rough waters in the Middle East last week. On Thursday, an influential member of Iran's parliament announced that the Islamic republic had arrested 12 "CIA agents" who had allegedly been targeting Iran's military and its nuclear program. The lawmaker didn't give the nationality of the agents, but the presumption is that they were Iranians recruited to spy for the CIA. The agency hasn't yet commented, but from what I've heard it was a serious compromise, one which the CIA is still trying to get to the bottom of.
Even more curious was the flap in Lebanon. In June, Hizballah's secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah announced that the movement had arrested two of its own members as CIA spies. But it wasn't until last week that the story got traction in Washington. The CIA confirmed that operations in Beirut had been compromised but declined to offer details. As in the case of the alleged Iranian debacle, it's no doubt still doing a "damage assessment" - a process that can take years. Even then, it will be difficult to determine exactly what happened.
From what I've been able to piece together, Hizballah aggressively went after the CIA in Lebanon using telephone "link analysis." That's a form of electronic intelligence gathering that uses software capable of combing through trillions of gigabytes of phone-call data in search of anomalies - prepaid cell phones calling each other, series of brief calls, analysis of a cell-phone company's GPS tracking. Geeks who do this for a living understand how it works, and I'll take their word for it.
But it's not the technology that's remarkable, as much as the idea that it's being employed by Hizballah, a militant Islamic organization better known for acts of terror than for electronic counterespionage. That's another reminder that Hizballah has effectively supplanted the Lebanese state, taking over police and security functions that in other countries are the exclusively the domain of sovereign authority. Indeed, since Nasrallah's announcement of catching the CIA agents, no Lebanese authority has questioned why Hizballah, rather than Lebanese intelligence, would be responsible for catching alleged spies for foreign powers in Lebanon. Nobody bothers to ask what would be a pointless question; everyone knows that when it comes to military and security functions, Hizballah might as well be the state.
Since I served in Beirut during the '80s, I've been struck by the slow but inexorable shift of sovereign power to Hizballah. Not only does the movement have the largest military, with nearly 50,000 rockets pointed at Israel; it has de facto control over Lebanon's spies, both military and civilian. It green-lights senior appointments. Hizballah also is wired into all the databases, keeping track of who enters the country, who leaves, where they stay, whom they see and call. It's capable of monitoring every server in the country. It can even tap into broadband communications like Skype. And, of course, it doesn't bother with such legal niceties as warrants. If foreigners are going to be caught spy in Lebanon, it will be Hizballah that catches them.
I have a feeling last week's events bodes ill for U.S. intelligence because it suggests that anyone capable from organized crime to terrorist groups can greatly enhance their counterintelligence capability by simply buying off-the-shelf equipment and the know-how to use it. Like a lot of people, I thought it would be easy coasting at the end of the Cold War after the KGB was defanged. Instead, globalization and the rapid spread of sophisticated technologies have opened an espionage Pandora's box.

Called the Council of Churches of the Middle East to the need to adopt the principle of dialogue in resolving problems when located by any party, and renouncing violence.
The Council stressed in the final statement of its General Assembly were distributed today that Christians Mtasalon in the East and are willing to follow the construction and co-existence and support the process of reform and development for the good of man reiterated his support for Arab causes, fair, especially the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination according to international legitimacy resolutions reminding the international community to take into account humanitarian principles which is human freedom, especially intellectual, religious and political.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei issued a fatwa to buy all the Syrian products of any kind, quantity in hard currency.
Khamenei asked (as quoted by several media outlets) to buy all the Syrian products, without exception and regardless of the specifications and quantities and in hard currency.
And the Arab League imposed economic sanctions and political and Syria after negotiations between the parties reached an impasse with regard to the Protocol of dispatching observers.
And sanctions included freezing assets of Syrian officials and stop dealing with the Syrian banks and stop trade agreements, as recommended by the ad hoc committee of the Arab League to stop flights to and from Syria as from 15 December, the current.

The motive of the Libyan attacker who opened fire in one of the courtyards of Topkapı Palace, one of İstanbul's most frequently visited tourist attractions, still remains unclear, but investigators say some progress has been made in the probe.
The assailant, identified as Samir Salem Ali Elmadhavri, was shot dead at the end of a one-and-a-half-hour-long clash with police after wounding three people inside the courtyard behind the main entrance of Topkapı Palace in the city's Sultanahmet neighborhood on Wednesday. Two soldiers and a private security officer were wounded in the attack. Security footage shows him yelling in Arabic, “This will be a massacre like in Norway.” Indeed, the intervention of a non-commissioned officer who was able to stall him for 45 minutes before the police arrived is now seen as the only reason that stopped the gunman from proceeding further into the palace, visited by hundreds of tourists every day.
His motives remain unclear in spite of many details that have emerged since Wednesday, including footage showing the gunman at a nearby cafe before the attack. Investigators have established that Elmadhavri was a 36-year-old businessman and co-owned a construction company in Libya. He was also carrying a passport given to businessmen by the Libyan government. The man walked into the scene with a pump-action rifle and a hunter’s rifle, but also seized an MP5 rifle from a soldier. A total of 301 cases from the hunter rifle and 66 cases from the MP5 were found near the columns of the St. Irene Museum. A Libyan passport, a hotel room keycard and a mobile phone were found on his body.
Investigators have established that he arrived in İstanbul on Nov. 27 on a Turkish Airlines (THY) flight from Benghazi. This was his first visit to Turkey, where he stayed at Hotel Crystal in Taksim. No evidence of prior plans to stage a shooting were found in his hotel room.
Thirteen people have testified in the investigation so far. Police have established that the assailant bought the pump-action rifle for TL 200 and the hunting rifle for TL 300 on Nov. 28, sparking a debate on the laxness of rules for buying firearms for foreigners. One person, who was detained after witnesses claims he had had a meeting with the gunman, was released after testifying to police. Both police and the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) are conducting an investigation to establish his motive.
On the day of the attack, the assailant first entered a café near Topkapı Palace before climbing upstairs while taking his two rifles with him to the café’s restroom, and walked out after strapping the rifles onto his body. He then went into another cafe, ordered a cup of coffee, paid for it but left without having taken a sip.
The police haven’t ruled out the possibility that he might be linked to Libyan officials, İstanbul Governor Hüseyni Avni Mutlu said.
There are also other possibilities. Some have claimed that he was just a mad man seeking revenge for an overpriced entertainment facility in Taksim. Witnesses say he walked into a bar in Taksim with a person whom he’d reportedly just met, but was upset with the bill, which appeared to be inflated.
Heavy bag he carried
Footage from the two cafés the assailant visited before the attack show him wearing a baseball hat hiding most of his face and a box to carry the rifles, as well as a black plastic bag and a knapsack. He stayed in this first cafeteria for nearly two minutes, and walked out without looking at the security camera at all and holding his head down. The owner of the first café, Orhan Güngör, said he had to move the box and the bag in the man’s hand out of the way after he went to the bathroom. “The knapsack was really heavy, so I left it. The box was also hefty. I wanted to look inside for a minute, but then I changed my mind. He came downstairs after a short while. I asked him where he was from. He told me he was Libyan. He didn’t want to talk much. I gave him a brochure. He took it and left.”
Meanwhile, security in Topkapı Palace was tightened significantly after the attack, with a metal detector being placed at the main entrance, the Bab-ı Hümayün. Previously, there were no security checks at the front gate.
The palace walls, trees and signs in the courtyard still bear the traces of the terrifying one-and-a-half hours of the Libyan gunman’s terrorism. There are bullet holes everywhere, including on a door and marble columns in the court yard. Tourists visiting the palace stopped to take pictures of the damage on Friday.
Gunman’s father in Libya
In related developments, the assailant’s 72-year-old father, Salim Elmadhavri, visited the Turkish Embassy in Benghazi on Wednesday, and apologized for the incident. “Officials [at the embassy] were nice to me. I want his body to be returned to Libya,” he said, according to a report in the Haber Türk daily on Friday. He also apologized and claimed that his son had psychological issues. “We apologize a thousand times to Turkey and the Turkish nation. His mental health wasn’t very good. Do not take this as an attack on Turkey.”
The Umut Foundation, an anti-gun civil society organization, has said the attack, which could have had devastating results, was the consequence of Turkey’s lax gun sale policies for foreigners. Any foreigner who walks in with his or her passport can obtain a hunting rifle without a permit. Meanwhile, store owners said they had received orders from officials to stop all firearm sales to foreigners until further notice.
The Umut Foundation, however, says it is also fairly easy for Turkish citizens to obtain a gun. Acquiring a permit only takes about 10 days, and there is insufficient oversight of the process. Annually, about 3,000 people are killed in Turkey by firearms.
