On June 2, 2011, Mish'al at-Tammu, speaker of the Kurdish Future Movement in Syria, was released from custody in Damascus. At-Tammu was able to be released after the Decree No. 61 was issued on May 31, 2011 (the amnesty decree). He had been sentenced to three years in prison on May 11, 2009.

(Interview with al-Yekiti leader on September 8, 2011) On the day that Mish'al at‑Tammu was released from prison, all the Kurdish parties visited him together. No sooner had he entered the tent than he said he did not belong to the Kurdish movement, but was a part of the Syrian revolution.

He greatly hurt the Kurdish movement with this statement. We spoke with him later about it and told him that the Kurdish movement is also a part of the Syrian revolution and that it would have been better if he had forgone his critique. He then withdrew from the coalition of twelve parties. Later, he wanted to return, but no one wanted to readmit him.

It was his mistake; he distanced himself from the Kurdish movement. We asked that he apologize, but he wasn't willing to do so.

September 12, 2011—According to his own account, Mish'al at-Tammu (b. 1957), speaker of the Kurdish Future Movement in Syria, narrowly escaped an attempt on his life on September 8, 2011.

In a telephone conversation with KurdWatch, at-Tammu explained that he, his son, and another party member were on their way to a Future Movement meeting in al-Qamishli at around 4:00 pm, when two men on a motorcycle tried to stop his car. Another car with tinted windows was following behind them.

They were able to leave the motorcycle behind, but the other car passed and then stopped them. An armed man exited the vehicle, but immediately stumbled, which allowed at-Tammu and his companions to escape their pursuers.

Mish'al at-Tammu told KurdWatch that he holds the Syrian government responsible for the assassination attempt.

On October 7, 2011 Mish'al at-Tammu (b. 1957) was assassinated in al-Qamishli. The speaker of the Kurdish Future Movement in Syria was attending a political meeting with his son Marsil Mischʿal at-Tammu (b. 1988), his brother ʿAbdurrazaq at-Tammu, party member Zahida Raschkilo, and three other people in a house in al-Qamshli, when a group of five men entered the house and asked, in Arabic, for at-Tammu.

When he stood up, they opened fire. Already lying on the floor, at Tammu was intentionally shot in his head. His son Marsil had to be operated on due to a gunshot wound to the stomach, and Zahida Rashkilo suffered a leg injury. . .

The Kurdish Patriotic Movement in Syria, a coalition of a total of eleven Kurdish parties [further information on the Kurdish Patriotic Movement] issued a declaration stating that the Syrian government is responsible for the safety of its people and demands an investigation of the case.

DAMASCUS, (SANA) – Terrorist Ali Mohammad Hamadi on Sunday confessed to murdering protestors and civilians including all the passengers of a bus coming from Lebanon with the intent of framing security forces.

In televised confessions broadcast by the Syrian TV, Hamadi said that he and a man named Rateb Abdelkader Alawiye had plotted smuggling of fuel, and under that pretense he accompanied Alawiye and met Fahed Fallaha.

Hamadi said that Alawiye and Fallaha were using a Skoda Octavia and wore military uniform, and that upon joining them they gave him a pump-action shotgun, while they themselves carried a shotgun and a machinegun.

He said that they drove near a location containing protestors in Bab Amro area in Homs and opened fire on them, killing 13 and injuring 7, and upon inquiring about the reason behind this act he was told by Alawiye that it was meant to incite people against security forces and blaming them for the crime. Hamadi was paid 500 Pounds for his involvement and was told that they would go out again on the next day.

"We went out thinking that there was a protest but we didn't find any… we waited for protestors for two days but they never came out to protest," he said, adding that at a later time Alawiye offered to let him lead an armed group and he grouped.

Alawiye put him in charge of seven gunmen carrying rifles including AK-47s and pump-action shotguns.

Hamadi said that they went out on a Friday in search of a large protest but didn't see any and decided to split into two groups to attack a military checkpoint, with one group circling through fields and the other heading towards the highway.

"When I heard the first shot, I emerged with my group and opened fire… Alawiye opened fire from his machine gun and killed 10 or 12," he said.

Hamadi said that two days later Alawiye recruited him for an operation in Telkalakh, and on the way Alawiye received a message. When Hamadi inquired about it, Alawiye told him to mind his own business and that he just had to take his money and be silent.

He said that they stopped at an intersection and were told by Alawiye that a white bus with Idleb number plates was coming, adding that both Alawiye and Fallaha were wearing military uniforms. The two told the rest to stay put and open fire at the buss when the first shot is fired.

"We did what he asked… after shooting the bus it stopped 150 meters away… Alawiye went there fired more than a hundred rounds from his machinegun at the buss and the people in it then came back," Hamadi said, adding that Alawiye came back to them and reported all the bus passengers dead.

He concluded by pointing out that Alawiye used to smuggle fuel from Syria to Lebanon, and that he received with 10 to 15 thousand pounds from him.
