DAMASCUS, (SANA) - Minister of Tourism Lamia Assi on Tuesday said that the Ministry views tourism as a developmental process the Syrian investors has the priority to actively contribute to after they have been excluded to an extent over the past years in favor of the Arab and foreign investors.
Meeting Heads of Vocational Unions at Dedeman Hotel, the Minister discussed opportunities of partnership in the field of tourism investment between the Ministry and the unions with the aim to encourage local investment and establish tourism projects that suite citizens and constitute additional revenue resources for the unions.
The unions' heads said the possibility of their institutions' participation in tourism investment "is a very important step" given the difficulty of activating their capital and the fact that investing with the government sector is "safer'.
Investment opportunities in 23 projects in 12 governments were envisaged during the meeting. The projects included hotels, restaurants, resorts of different levels, as well as entertainment, trade, sport and therapeutic facilities.
Minister Assi highlighted the importance of collective funding by the unions, noting that building a medical city is a priority for the Ministry and it should be so for the unions, making use of Syria's good reputation in this field in terms of quality and quantity.
Al-Rawda site in al-Zabadani area was preliminarily selected as a suitable place for an integrated medical city in the province of Damascus Countryside.
